The basic training programs and options we provide are as follows:

Pointing Dog Training:

Our “Started Pointing Dog Program” is for all pointing dog breeds, including DeCoverly setters and outside pointing dogs. The program lasts four to eight weeks depending on the dog’s age, level of development, previous experience, etc. A started dog finishing the program will be:

• Pointing birds
• Having birds shot over good points
• Trained in basic field obedience
• Hunting effectively - showing a knowledge of cover and scenting conditions
• E-collar conditioned
• Hunting dead - may or may not be reliably retrieving based on natural aptitude

Additional Pointing Dog Services include:

• Annual pre-season “Tune Up” (2 weeks, typically hunting 15-20 birds)
• Training for honoring and backing
• Steady to Wing and Shot

Retriever Training:

DeCoverly offers several Retriever Training Programs, which are as follows:
Our “Upland Retriever Program” lasts four to six weeks. Dogs completing the program will be:

• Finding and flushing birds
• Trained in basic field obedience - responding to “Come In” whistle and “Check” whistle to control range
• Hunting effectively - showing a knowledge of cover and scenting conditions
• E-collar conditioned
• Hunting dead
• Retrieving (based on natural aptitude, if not additional training time may be required)

Our “Started Waterfowl Dog Program” is suitable for the Junior Hunter/Beginning Senior Hunter Titles, and lasts 12+ weeks. Dogs completing the program will be trained in everything from the “Upland Retriever Program” and will also be:

• Trained in advanced obedience - heeling, whistle sits, etc.
• Retrieving to hand
• Trained in simple land and water blind retrieves (using whistle and hand signals)
• Trained in simple land and water double marked falls
• Steady to shot

Our “Finished Retriever Program” is suitable for Senior to Master Hunter Levels. The program lasts from four to eight months and covers all of the above training plus Multiple Marks and Complex Blind Retrieves.

Obedience Training:

Our “All Breed Basic Obedience Program” lasts from two to six weeks depending on the age of the dog, previous level of training, and owner’s desired level of training. The program is for dogs six months or older and includes:

• Here/Come
• Sit
• Heel
• Down
• Off (person, object)
• Wait (at doors, crossings, etc.)

Our “Problem Solver Program” is custom tailored to suit your needs and unique to each dog and situation. Some common examples we are able to work with include:

• Dominance Issues
• Coming When Called
• Persistent Jumping
• Nipping/Mouthing

Our “Started Pet Puppy Program” is a very unique program for customers who want a puppy but want to avoid the difficulties of raising one. The basic program includes:

• Crate training
• Housebreaking
• Car breaking
• Basic puppy obedience (sit, come, down, off)
• No bite, no chew, no jump
